You must make your judgment through several skill checks and show your wit throughout the mission. This guide will provide you with a complete walkthrough of the Save Mayrina quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Save Mayrina in BG3

At the start of the ‘Save Mayrina’ quest, while heading through the swamp of the Blighted Village, you will find Johl and Demir, the two brothers of Mayrina, quarreling with Aunt Ethel. By observing their conversation, you will find out that Aunt Ethel is lying about not knowing about Mayrina’s whereabouts. At the end of this scene, Aunt Ethel disappears, and the two brothers start their journey to find their lost sister.

Now, head towards the Riverside Teahouse to interact with Aunt Ethel. Upon reaching here, you will see Aunt Ethel forcing Mayrina to finish all the food. After noticing you, Ethel will ask for an apology and also reveal that Mayrina is there with her. During the whole scene, it’s better to choose dialogue that will make Aunt Ethel angry.

After you successfully piss off Aunt Ethel, the Hag will show her true colors and teleport Mayrina to an unknown location and turn herself into a hag. Soon you will realize that the walls of the room are an illusion and that there is an escape behind the fireplace. Now, take the stairs behind the fireplace and head towards the Overgrown Tunnel.

Afterward, keep going inside the tunnel until you reach the Gnarled Door. In front of the door, you will encounter the Hag again, and she will threaten you to leave the place and disappear again. At this point, you have to get past the Gnarled Door, which seems impossible. But if you notice carefully, the door is also an illusion created by the Hag.

While facing the Gnarled Door, you will find two Whispering Masks on the ground. Take one of the masks and equip it. For a while, you will get a glimpse of some messages from the Hag. But worry not; use the mask to get past the Gnarled Door to the other side of the Overgrown Tunnel. On the other side, you will face a few enemies. You can finish them off, or you can skip the fight by wearing the mask. But make sure to take the mask off after this fight, or else the Hag will keep controlling your mind.

This part of the tunnel is filled with poison. Nonetheless, you can cross the entire tunnel by avoiding interacting with any kind of item here. Head towards the waterfall in front of you can click on it to jump and get to the other side of the waterfall. After doing this, you will successfully reach the Ancient Abode, where you will face off with Auntie Ethel.

After Auntie Ethel founds you out here, she will get more pissed and place Mayrina inside a cage and set it on fire. Use the Water Spell or the Arrow of Ice on the fire to drowse it off. Once the fire is off, the final fight will start. At this point, Aunty Ethel will take Mayrina out of the cage and create a clone of her. You have to identify the real Mayrina and attack the fake one.

After failing with this trick, Aunt Ethel will make three clones and make herself invisible. You can use an AoE attack like Alchemist’s Fire to find out Aunt Ethel’s position and continue your attack on her. When Ethel reaches very low HP, she will start begging for her life. Showing kindness towards her would be the wisest option, as killing her would piss Mayrina off.

After forgiving Auntie Ethel, she will grant you an item called Auntie Ethel’s Hair and also let Mayrina leave. Whereas, if you killed Auntie Ethel, it would make Mayrina angry, as the Hag was supposed to bring her dead husband to life in return for her child’s life.

If you choose to kill Auntie Ethel, after the scene ends, Mayrina will head toward the coffin of her dead husband, Connor. Meanwhile, search around in the Ancient Abode, and you will find a resurrecting wand. Now take the wand and head to Mayrina. You can choose to revive Connor, but if you do so, only a zombie version of Connor will get revived, which will not make Mayrina happy. But Mayrina will also understand that it’s not in her fate to revive her dead husband but to start for Baldur’s Gate in search of a miracle.
