Boise Airport updates Air Service Incentive Program; eyes potential new flights
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — New flights could be coming to the Boise Airport in 2021.The resolution was approved Tuesday night by the city council.
The Boise Airport is looking to update its Air Service Incentive Program, which the Boise City Council first adopted in 2013. The program gives airlines money for adding flights to and from the Boise Airport with the goal to increase traffic to Boise and give passengers more options.
This year, the Boise Airport wants to update the program to give airlines incentives to start servicing target markets. These incentives include reducing airlines operating costs and offering funds to the service via marketing and public relations.
The target markets the Boise Airport is looking at include Orlando, New York City, Boston, Anchorage, and even Honolulu. It also includes other Idaho airports.
In this plan, airlines can get $125,000 for a year-round route and $75,000 for a seasonal route.
In the Boise City Council meeting agenda, the Department of Aviation said the increased revenue from the new services will help pay for the program.
The airport could also see more money through leased space and operation if a new airline joins the Boise Airport.
