Latest purse out for the Open Championship 2024: This is how the winners share looks like

The 2024 Open Championship will be the final major of the year. It will take place at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland from July 18 to 21, 2024. The tournament features a field of 156 players, both top players and quite a few rookies.

The prize purse for the event has seen a major change. Last year the tournament had a record $16.5 million purse. However, R&A have come up with the largest prize fund in the Open Championship history with $17 million, $500,000 more than the previous edition. The winner will get $3.1 million as a prize.

The R&A has a responsibility to strike a balance between maintaining The Open's position in the global game, providing the funds required for governance and developing amateur and recreational golf in 146 countries internationally. The R&A organises the tournament, which is scheduled on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour schedules. There will be a 72-hole stroke play competition, with 18 holes played each day. After 36 holes, a cut will be made, with the top 70 players and ties moving on to the final two rounds.

Past champions and 2024 Open Championship purse breakdown

The 2024 Open Championship field at Royal Troon includes many previous champions. Brian Harman has also returned to the field. He is the defending champion, having earned $3.1 million last year. Tiger Woods has won the Open Championship three times—in 2000, 2005, and 2006. Additionally, Rory McIlroy has won the Open Championship twice, in 2014 and 2020.

This year has already seen three major championships. Beginning with the Masters 2024, Scottie Scheffler won the green jacket and earned $3.6 million. Then comes the PGA Championship 2024, where Xander Schauffele received $3.33 million as a winner’s share. Finally, Bryson DeChambeau won the sparkling trophy at the U.S. Open 2024 for $4.3 million.
