Lorena Rojas Dies; Mexican Soap Opera Star Was 44
Lorena Rojas, a Mexican soap opera star who had been battling breast cancer since 2008, lost her brave fight against the disease yesterday.
She was 44 years old.
According to CNN, Rojas passed away at at her home in Miami. She was surrounded at the time by her boyfriend, family members and other loved ones.
Last year, after the rumor had metastasized to other parts of her body in 2013, Rojas was told it had spread to her liver and her time was running out.
"Thank you all for celebrating my birthday with me. Beautiful day," she wrote a week ago upon turning 44.
Rojas starred in over a dozen soap operas, including "El Cuerpo del Deseo," "Alcanzar una estrella" and, most recently, "Rosario.” She also recorded a children’s album in 2014.
Upon learning of her death, CNN en Español reporter Ismael Cala wrote online:
"It is with sadness and respect to her warrior memory that I received news of the passing of Lorena Rojas. Your life touched many."
