Vouching to protect women, Andrey Rublev has a long message over Angela Carini forfeiting her match
Russian tennis pro Andrey Rublev has lashed out at Imane Khelif for shattering the Italian woman Angela Carini‘s dream at the Paris Olympics boxing match on Thursday (August 1st). The match was highly controversial because Khelif, who failed a gender test, was allowed to compete and won her first bout in just 46 seconds.
Khelif and Carini exchanged a few blows before Carini received a couple more to her face. Although it was just two hits, Carini stopped the match and signaled to the referee that she wanted to quit. After only 46 seconds, Carini was in the middle of the ring holding her nose.
The Algerian was considered the winner, but many around the world were unhappy with this. They blamed the IOC (International Olympic Committee) for allowing gender test-failed women to compete alongside other women. Joining them was Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev.
The Russian ace was also furious about the match and spoke about the importance of women’s protection as he lashed out at the organization for allowing such a match. He also sympathized with the Italian athlete whose dream was taken away from her in under a minute.

IOC addresses the transgender issue at the Olympics boxing match
After this controversy erupted online, many professionals criticized the International Olympic Committee for allowing Imane Khelif to compete at the Paris Olympics. Khelif, who had been disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing a gender test, won her first match in 46 seconds against Angela Carini. Despite her disqualification, the IOC permitted her participation, raising numerous questions and concerns.
In response, an IOC member clarified that Khelif’s participation was not related to any transgender issues. He defended both Khelif and the other alleged transgender woman competing in the Olympics, asserting their right to participate.
They have competed and are continuing to compete in women's competition. They have lost and have won against other women over the years and by the way this isn't a transgender issue.Mark Adams, the IOC spokesperson, said in a recent press interview.
Furthermore, he highlighted that women can naturally have high testosterone levels without being male, and reiterated that this issue was not related to transgender participation. Despite the online backlash, Khelif will advance to the next stage of the tournament and continue to compete.
